Workshop Media’s Jon Bailey takes a look at some of the quirks, annoyances and pet peeves of the Christmas Season in Workshop’s Christmas Humbugs!
Everyone knows someone like this, The Office Santa. As soon as December 1st comes around, they fill their workspace to bursting point with Christmas decorations, start the massive card delivery operation, and dig out their Christmas jumpers and ‘funny’ Christmas tie (it probably has flashing lights and plays bloody Jingle Bells when you press Rudolph’s nose). It will come as no surprise to you (especially if you’ve managed to read this far) that I hate this person. Their slightly desperate attempts to appear jolly are often in stark contrast to their attitude during the rest of the year, as they impose an air of enforced bonhomie onto the office. No one is allowed to be stressed, or miserable, or even less than ecstatically happy when this clown is around, lest they become the target of a military-style campaign to ‘get them into the Christmas spirit’.
No. Stop it. Leave me alone.
I have no real desire to prevent people from celebrating Christmas in any way they choose, but please leave me alone to do the same. I’m quite happy sitting at my undecorated desk, in my normal work attire, with my single Christmas card tucked away out of sight, getting on with what I have to do. Does that make me a grumpy old git? Probably.
