7 Second Profile Videos
The new Facebook Profile Videos are going to be rolled out as part of major updates to the mobile profile layout.
According to Mashable, the UK will be amongst the first to get the new feature. Many don’t realise that features are rolled out gradually across the vast userbase, not all at once.
The profile videos will consist of 7 second videos – not much but enough to introduce yourself and make a statement.

Facebook profile pictures or avatars have been a feature of Facebook since it’s inception, as well as virtually every other profile based online account platform.
Facebook states that the profile video will get profiles an extra dimension and reflect the way in which people are using Facebook – for video.
Profile Pic Evolution
The profile pic, a small but critical feature got a lot of attention in 2015. To show solidarity and support to the LGBTQ community, Facebook introduced the Celebrate Pride tool that let users overlay a rainbow flag on the profile pic.
This lead to the trend of changing out or making an addition to your profile pic as a way of publicly showing support to a cause or movement.
Additional forthcoming profile video and profile picture features also include the ability to temporarily change your profile pic. Great for special events.
The profile video is set to be a great expansion on a simple yet key element of Facebook.
Profile Video Limitations
Currently all the example material from Facebook showcases the profile videos being used exclusively in personal profiles.
There’s no reason to assume that the feature won’t come to Pages eventually as this is where a great deal of Facebook’s business is based. Brands will be wanting to take advantage of this new tool very soon.
